Minimum Essential Coverage

The MEC plan is basic health coverage that the federal Affordable Care Act (ACA) requires most employees to have. The goal of the ACA is to make sure everyone has access to important preventive care, like annual checkups, screenings, and vaccines, so health problems can be caught early.

Because of this federal requirement, all eligible employees are automatically enrolled in the MEC plan unless they waive it by showing they already have health insurance somewhere else, such as through a parent, spouse, or another job.

The MEC plan is not major medical insurance, but it does provide the essential preventive services you need to stay on track with your health.

Major Medical Insurance

AveNew offers a major medical plan known as a Minimum Value Plan (MVP). This affordable plan meets federal Affordable Care Act (ACA) standards for covering regular doctor visits, urgent care, hospital services, and other important medical needs.

Under the ACA, employers must offer an MVP plan to all eligible employees so everyone has access to more complete medical coverage if they choose it.

While the MEC plan provides required preventive care, the MVP plan goes further by helping pay for everyday medical care and unexpected health issues, giving you stronger protection and lower out-of-pocket costs when you need treatment.
